Tali Babila (Inorganic Geochemist, University of California, Santa Cruz, USA) collects an interstitial water whole-round sample from a core that has just been brought onto the catwalk. The sample will be taken to the geochemistry lab, where it will be cleaned to remove contamination from the core liner, and then the water will be squeezed out and collected to analyze pH, salinity, chlorinity, alkalinity, and major and minor cation and anion constituents.
